Sustainability in the Qube Hotels Heidelberg

Nachhaltigkeitsmanagerin

Welcome to Qube Hotels Heidelberg. For us, sustainability is much more than a trend – we're concerned with how sustainable change can be meaningfully combined with the operational management of two hotels.

We believe that the world is facing major challenges. Climate change, the loss of biodiversity, and the pollution of our environment affect us all. 9% of global greenhouse gases are attributable to the tourism industry alone. As a hotel, we therefore see it as our duty to take responsibility and actively contribute. Travel should not only inspire and rejuvenate, but also be sustainable. This means that we are aware of our ecological footprints and take measures to keep them as small as possible. Sustainability is not just a concept—it is our daily practice, characterized by respect for nature and the people who live in it.

To achieve and monitor these goals, we have created the position of Sustainability Manager and are pleased to have recruited someone from within our own ranks for this position. Ms. Laska Bertels is a certified Sustainability Manager at the German Hotel Academy and is also responsible for breakfast and lunch in our restaurant. Laska doesn't see it as a chore, but rather as an opportunity from which everyone involved can only benefit. As a certified company, we are committed to continuously improving our measures. Regular checks and transparency ensure that we not only maintain our high standards but also constantly develop them further. For us, sustainability is not a goal, but a continuous process. Every day offers new opportunities to act more responsibly. Let's walk this path together.

Our measures for a sustainable future are:

1. Energy efficiency and resource conservation

Use of renewable energies: a large part of our electricity needs is covered by renewable energy sources.
Our Qube Hotel Bahnstadt is a pure passive house.
Energy-efficient technology: intelligent heating and cooling systems, LED lighting, dimmed lighting and motion detectors in all public areas significantly reduce energy consumption.
Heat recovery systems: Our heating and ventilation systems are designed to efficiently use and recycle heat.
Instead of many small minibars in the rooms, we offer a large snack and drinks vending machine in our lobby – this reduces electricity consumption enormously and at the same time offers guests more choice.

2. Reduce water consumption

Water-saving fittings and shower heads contribute to the conservation of water resources..
THhe majority of our container plants are supplied with water through a water-saving drip irrigation system..
THRoom cleaning is only carried out when necessary.

3. Sustainable construction and furnishings

Environmentally friendly materials: We make sure to use materials with low environmental impact in new buildings and renovations.
Regionality: Furniture, decorations, and building materials are largely sourced locally to minimize transport routes and support the local economy.

4. Regionality and organic products

Our kitchen prefers to work with regional suppliers who operate sustainably and organically.
Seasonal dishes: our menus are tailored to regional seasons to guarantee freshness and quality.
Supporting small businesses: by working with local companies, we strengthen the local economy.
We do not serve bottled water in our à la carte service; here we offer Heidelberg table water.

5. Waste management and recycling

Waste avoidance: We rely on reusable products and reduce disposable items, such as portion packaging on the breakfast buffet.
Composting: Organic waste is disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner and mostly composted or used for energy production.

6. Social responsibility and fair working conditions

We pay attention to fair wages, good working conditions, and promote a family atmosphere within the team.
Local initiatives are supported to enrich the cultural and social life in our region.
We donate our bottle caps and corks to social projects and recycling campaigns that raise money for cancer charities and nature conservation, and the valuable raw materials are recycled.

We want you to not only enjoy an unforgettable stay with us, but also feel comfortable knowing that your trip is making a positive contribution to sustainable tourism. For us, sustainability means making conscious decisions today so that future generations can also experience our world in all its beauty.

You, as a guest, can also actively contribute to our sustainability concept. For example, by accepting towel changes every few days, forgoing daily room cleaning, or making conscious choices when selecting your menu, you help us conserve resources.
